Connecticut - General Construction Permit Upcoming Renewal

Notice Of Tentative Determination And Request For Additional Information:
General Permit For The Discharge Of Stormwater And Dewatering Wastewaters Associated With Construction Activities

Reissuance of Construction General Permit
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) hereby gives notice it has made a tentative determination to reissue without modifications the General Permit for the Discharge of Stormwater and Dewatering Wastewaters Associated with Construction Activities (construction general permit). A general permit contains discharge requirements, best management practices and treatment requirements specific to the discharge category that are designed to protect the waters of the state from pollution. The Commissioner of DEP is authorized to approve or deny such permits pursuant to Section 22a-430b of the Connecticut General Statutes.
The construction general permit will expire October 1, 2007 for discharges to surface waters. The reissuance of this general permit will continue the authorization for registrants to discharge stormwater and dewatering wastewaters to surface waters for one year from the date of reissuance of this general permit while the DEP works with stakeholders and solicits comments on how, in the near future, the DEP should propose to modify the general permit. Current registrants need not renew their registration under this permit until the modified permit is issued in the future. Current registrants are also advised that if the reissuance of this general permit is not completed by its expiration date, such registrants should continue to operate under the terms and conditions of the expired general permit.
